Construction documents for fire alarm systems

2018 IFC 907.1.1- Construction documents. Construction documents for fire alarm systems shall be submitted for review and approval prior to system installation. Construction documents shall include, but not be limited to, all of the following: 1. .A floor plan which indicates the use of all rooms. 2. Locations of alarm-initiating and notification appliances. 3. Alarm control and trouble signaling equipment. 4. Annunciation. 5. Power connection. 6. Battery calculations. 7. Conductor type and sizes. 8. Voltage drop calculations. 9. Manufacturers, model numbers and listing information for equipment, devices and materials. 10. Details of ceiling height and construction. 11. The interface of fire safety control functions. Action Required: Provide deferred submittal for alarm system.

Construction documents - Fire protection systems

2018 IFC 901.2- Construction documents. The fire code official shall have the authority to require construction documents and calculations for all fire protection systems and to require permits be issued for the installation, rehabilitation or modification of any fire protection system. Construction documents for fire protection systems shall be submitted for review and approval prior to system installation. Action Required: Provide deferred submittal for protection system.

Alarms connected to automatic sprinkler system

2018 IFC 903.4.2- Alarms. Approved audible and visual devices shall be connected to every automatic sprinkler system. Such sprinkler water-flow alarm devices shall be activated by water flow equivalent to the flow of a single sprinkler of the smallest orifice size installed in the system. Listed alarm notification devices shall be provided on the exterior and interior of the building in an approved location. Where a fire alarm system is installed, actuation of the automatic sprinkler system shall actuate the building fire alarm system.

315.3.1 Ceiling clearance. Storage shall be maintained 2 feet (610 mm) or more below the ceiling in nonsprinklered areas of buildings or not less than 18 inches (457 mm) below sprinkler head deflectors in sprinklered areas of buildings. Action Required: Need plans showing the hight of the storage on racks to be no closer than 18" to the sprinklers.

Illumination required

2018 IFC 1008.1 Illumination required. The means of egress, shall be illuminated at all times the building space served by the means of egress is occupied. Action Required:Provide remote heads for illumination of the exterior exit area. Field verified at final inspection. Corrected-Plans do not show emergency and exit lighting.

Code analysis required

A code analysis shall be provided which includes but is not limited to occupancy type, occupant load, construction type, actual area, height and floors, allowable area, height and floors, and the codes to which the project is designed. Action required: Amend Building Code Review - this building is a fully sprinklered 2B.

IBC 1109.12.9 Point of sale and service counters - accessibility

2018 IBC 1109.12.3 Point of sale and service counters. Where counters are provided for sales or distribution of goods or services, at least one of each type provided shall be accessible. Where such counters are dispersed throughout the building or facility, accessible counters shall also be dispersed. Action required: Service counters must be fully accessible (min. 36" of surface at a maximum 36" high). To be field verified.
