FIeld Engineering Inspectors John Dimauro and Marquelle Williams were doing a water construction inspection and discovered the contractor installed a 6x2 tee for the service connection instead of getting a tap from the water dept. When the water dept brought out the meter and pit they said the tap was done incorrectlyl and was suppose to be done by the water dept. Upon further review the water dept. has directed us to have the contractor remove the 6" gate valve and the valve on the fire hydrant assembly on the west side of the road. There will be one valve on the east side of the road where the main is located. The water dept. has stated that it is good practice to not have too many valves and in this case the only valve for the fire hydrant and water shut-off will be on the east side of the road on the main.

I received a call from the water dept. to meet them at the job site today. The connection for the service line has a leak at the main where the copper has been connected to the main. It appears that it just needs to be tighten up , they did not want to touch it because they didn't install it. The other reason they came out was to verify the serial number on the meter that was installed. When they looked at the meter it appears that you have 3/4 "meter and have installed a 1" copper line coming out of the meter. The water dept. is requesting that you install a 3/4" piece of copper coming out of the meter for 10 ft and then you can transition to whatever size you want after that. They also noted that the valve box on the fire hydrant is covered with dirt, may need to be raised.
