Redford Construction has begun the replacement of the doghouse manhole that was installed without City approval. The new materials meet city specs.

Redford construction was onsite at 7am Thursday March 1st to begin the replacement of the doghouse manhole that was installed without City approval. The manhole was excavated and materials arrived onsite. On Friday March 2nd a pump around operation was set up and the doghouse manhole was removed. After the manhole was removed it was determined by Redford Construction that the inflow and outflow piped were only 1.5 inches horizontaly offset over the 22' run that was removed. An Idea was proposed to eliminate the manhole because of the small offset and the flat grade of the pipe. This change was approved by Lee's Summit Development Engeneering, Public Works Engeneering, and Water Operations. A 12" layer od compacted gravel was layed under the pipe. The pipe was then attahed on both ends with stainless steel backed Fernco couplings. The pipe was then properly bedded with compacted gravel to a level 12" above the top of pipe. The remainder of the hole was filled with 6" compacted lifts of Type5 AB3. An 8" layer of concrete was placed with a 2" asphalt surface cap. A mandrel was pulled through the repair. The mandrel would not pass through the existing downstream section of pipe. The water department will video the line after the thirty day settling period has passed.
