ACTION REQUIRED: The Fire Alarm System plans for the Meridian apartments at View high in Lee’s Summit have been (rejected) for the following reasons (1) Clubhouse is missing in the submittal plans (2) No annunciator shown on plans – spec sheet sent for annunciator, show the annunciator on plans if an annunciator is to be installed (3) Plans need to include NFPA 72 device installation requirement diagram, addressable system riser diagram, indicate how many batteries and size of battery to be supplied for each buildings system. (4) Symbol legend has conflicting symbols: FCP(fire alarm control panel) shown in legend, plans show a FAC no FAC in the legend. (5) Plans need to show CO detectors in the garages-(not to be wired into the FACP) to be a local alarm only and open garage doors when activated. (6) Add (one) horn/strobe notification device in each apartment. (7) Manual pull stations are not required in R2 occupancies if there is smoke detection in the corridors and has a fire suppression system throughout IFC 2012 907.2.9.1 (exceptions). One pull station is required for each buildings system. Usually they are mounted in the IT room by the FACP or in the Sprinkler room to cut back on tampering/false alarms.

2012 IMC 607.4 Access and identification. Fire and smoke dampers shall be provided with an approved means of access, large enough to permit inspection and maintenance of the damper and its operating parts. The access shall not affect the integrity of fire-resistance-rated assemblies. The access openings shall not reduce the fire-resistant rating of the assembly. Access points shall be permanently identified on the exterior by a label having letters not less than 0.5 inch in height reading: FIRE/SMOKE DAMPER, SMOKE DAMPER or FIRE DAMPER. Each character shall not be less than 3 inches high with a minimum stroke width of 0.5 inch. They should be installed on a contrasting background and be plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property. When required by the fire code official, address numbers shall be provided in additional approved locations to facilitate emergency response. Address numbers and letters shall be Arabic numbers or alphabetical letters. Where access is by means of a private road and the building cannot be viewed from the public way, a monument, pole or other approved sign or means shall be used to identify the structure. Address numbers shall be maintained. In multi-tenant commercial buildings where tenants have multiple entrances located on different sides of the building, each door shall be addressed. The entrance doors in a means of egress in buildings with an occupancy in Groups A, B, E, I-2, M, R-1 or R-2, and entrance doors to tenant spaces in occupancies in Groups A, B, E, I-2, M, R-1 or R-2, are permitted to be equipped with an approved entrance and egress access control system, listed in accordance with UL 294, which shall be installed in accordance with all of the following criteria: 1. A sensor shall be provided on the egress side arranged to detect an occupant approaching the doors. The doors shall be arranged to unlock by a signal from or loss of power to the sensor. 2. Loss of power to that part of the access control system which locks the doors shall automatically unlock the doors. 3. The doors shall be arranged to unlock from a manual unlocking device located 40 inches to 48 inches (1016 mm to 1219 mm) vertically above the floor and within 5 feet (1524 mm) of the secured doors. Ready access shall be provided to the manual unlocking device and the device shall be clearly identified by a sign that reads “PUSH TO EXIT.” When operated, the manual unlocking device shall result in direct interruption of power to the lock—independent of the access control system electronics—and the doors shall remain unlocked for a minimum of 30 seconds. 4. Activation of the building fire alarm system, if provided, shall automatically unlock the doors, and the doors shall remain unlocked until the fire alarm system has been reset. 5. Activation of the building automatic sprinkler or fire detection system, if provided, shall automatically unlock the doors. The entrance doors in a means of egress in buildings with an occupancy in Groups A, B, E, I-2, M, R-1 or R-2, and entrance doors to tenant spaces in occupancies in Groups A, B, E, I-2, M, R-1 or R-2, are permitted to be equipped with an approved entrance and egress access control system, listed in accordance with UL 294, which shall be installed in accordance with all of the following criteria: 1. A sensor shall be provided on the egress side arranged to detect an occupant approaching the doors. The doors shall be arranged to unlock by a signal from or loss of power to the sensor. 2. Loss of power to that part of the access control system which locks the doors shall automatically unlock the doors. 3. The doors shall be arranged to unlock from a manual unlocking device located 40 inches to 48 inches (1016 mm to 1219 mm) vertically above the floor and within 5 feet (1524 mm) of the secured doors. Ready access shall be provided to the manual unlocking device and the device shall be clearly identified by a sign that reads “PUSH TO EXIT.” When operated, the manual unlocking device shall result in direct interruption of power to the lock—independent of the access control system electronics—and the doors shall remain unlocked for a minimum of 30 seconds. 4. Activation of the building fire alarm system, if provided, shall automatically unlock the doors, and the doors shall remain unlocked until the fire alarm system has been reset. 5.
