Combustible materials shall be permitted in buildings of Type I or II construction in the following applications and in accordance with Sections 603.1.1 through 603.1.3: (see code for specific examples and exceptions) Action required: Wood nailers not allowed at roof curb assembly. 2012 IMC 505.2 Makeup air required. Exhaust hood systems capable of exhausting in excess of 400 cfm shall be provided with makeup air at a rate approximately equal to the exhaust air rate. Such makeup air systems shall be equipped with a means of closure and shall be automatically controlled to start and operate simultaneously with the exhaust system. Action required: Provide makeup air.

Grease ducts serving Type I hoods shall be constructed of steel having a minimum thickness of 0.0575 inch (No. 16 gage) or stainless steel not less than 0.0450 inch (No. 18 gage) in thickness. Exception: Factory-built commercial kitchen grease ducts listed and labeled in accordance with UL 1978 and installed in accordance with Section 304.1. Action required: Specify compliant ductwork.

2012 IFC 901.5- Installation acceptance testing. Fire detection and alarm systems, fire-extinguishing systems, fire hydrant systems, fire standpipe systems, fire pump systems, private fire service mains and all other fire protection systems and appurtenances thereto shall be subject to acceptance tests as contained in the installation standards and as approved by the fire code official. The fire code official shall be notified before any required acceptance testing. The fire code official shall be notified 48 hours before any required acceptance test. ACTION REQUIRED: Acceptance testing of the type-1 hood suppression system shall be required prior to use of the hood and fryer. To schedule a test contact the fire department at 816-969-1300.
