Construction documents for fire alarm systems

2006 IFC 907.1.1- Construction documents. Construction documents for fire alarm systems shall be submitted for review and approval prior to system installation. Construction documents shall include, but not be limited to, all of the following: 1. .A floor plan which indicates the use of all rooms. 2. Locations of alarm-initiating and notification appliances. 3. Alarm control and trouble signaling equipment. 4. Annunciation. 5. Power connection. 6. Battery calculations. 7. Conductor type and sizes. 8. Voltage drop calculations. 9. Manufacturers, model numbers and listing information for equipment, devices and materials. 10. Fire detection and alarm systems, fire-extinguishing systems, fire hydrant systems, fire standpipe systems, fire pump systems, private fire service mains and all other fire protection systems and appurtenances thereto shall be subject to acceptance tests as contained in the installation standards and as approved by the fire code official. The fire code official shall be notified before any required acceptance testing. The fire code official shall be notified 48 hours before any required acceptance test. Duct detection shall be supervisory alarms only. Verified at inspection.

2006 IFC 901.6- Inspection, testing and maintenance. Fire detection, alarm and extinguishing systems shall be maintained in an operative condition at all times, and shall be replaced or repaired where defective. Not required fire protection systems and equipment shall be inspected, tested and maintained or removed.Verified at inspection. Verified at inspection.

Business License

Lee's Summit Code of Ordinance, Section7-130.10 - Business License. It shall be unlawfull for any person to engage in the construction contracting business without first obtaining a business license as required under the applicable provisions of Chapter 28 of the Lee's Summit Code of Ordinances. Action required - Provide the name of the licensed general contractor for this project prior to permit aproval. A minimum of a Class B license is required.

License contractors

No person, other than a licensed contractor or employees of a licensed contractor, shall engage in electrical, plumbing or mechanical business, construction, installation or maintenance unless duly licensed in accordance with this section. Expert from Sec. 7-130, Lees Summit Code of Ordinances. Action required - Provide the name of licensed mechanical, electrical and plumbing contractors for this project prior to permit approval.

Plumb - Separate facilities

Accessibility - Water closet - Grab bars

ICC/ANSI A117.1 2003 604.5.1 - Fixed sidewall grab bars. Fixed sidewall grab bars shall be 42 inches minimum in length, located 12 inches maximum from the rear wall and extending 54 inches minimum from the rear wall. In addition, a vertical grab bar 18 inches minimum in length shall be mounted with the bottom of the bar located between 39 inches and 41 inches above the floor, and with the center line of the bar located between 39 inches and 41 inches from the rear wall. Codes Administration - The structual plans for the shell building indicates that the area in which the rooftop units are located is designed for a maximum weight of 2,000 lbs per unit and curb. This area is located between building lines D3 and D4. Action required - Provide documentation which has been signed and sealed by a structural engineer licensed in the State of Missouri showing the required alterations to the existing roof system needed to support the new Rtu. Codes Administration - The bottom chord braces at the rtu(s) shall be welded once the units have been installed. This will need to be verified by the city inspection staff. Action required - This comment is for information purposes.

1006.3 Illumination emergency power. The power supply for means of egress illumination shall normally be provided by the premises’ electrical supply. In the event of power supply failure, an emergency electrical system shall automatically illuminate the following areas: 1. Aisles and unenclosed egress stairways in rooms and spaces that require two or more means of egress. 2. Corridors, exit enclosures and exit passageways in buildings required to have two or more exits. 3. Exterior egress components at other than the level of exit discharge until exit discharge is accomplished for buildings required to have two or more exits. 4. Interior exit discharge elements, as permitted in Section 1024.1, in buildings required to have two or more exits. 5. Exterior landings, as required by Section 1008.1.5, for exit discharge doorways in buildings required to have two or more exits. The emergency power system shall provide power for a duration of not less than 90 minutes and shall consist of storage batteries, unit equipment or an on-site generator. Address numbers required

2006 IFC 505.1- Address numbers. New and existing buildings shall have approved address numbers, building numbers or approved building identification placed in a position that is plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property. These numbers shall contrast with their background. In Multi-tenant commercial building where tenants have multiple entrances located on different sides of the building , each door shall be addressed. Address numbers shall be Arabic numerals or alphabet letters. Numbers shall be a minimum of 4 inches (102 mm) high with a minimum stroke width of 0.5 inch (12.7 mm). Provide address numbers on/over the front and rear doors. Verified at inspection.

Egress doors shall be provided with thumb latches or panic hardware. The use of double keyed deadbolts is prohibited. Verified at inspection

Portable fire extinguishers - conspicuous locations

2006 IFC 906.5- Conspicuous location. Portable fire extinguishers shall be located in conspicuous locations where they will be readily accessible and immediately available for use. These locations shall be along normal paths of travel, unless the fire code official determines that the hazard posed indicates the need for placement away from normal paths of travel. Action required: Move fire extinguisher from the non-sales area to the back hallway.

The exit sign from the sales to the fitting room area shall be double sided. Verified at inspection.
