Duct penetrations through horizontal exit walls. 3. Duct penetrations through shaft inclosures. 4. Duct penetrations of the ceiling of fire-resistive floor-ceiling or roof-ceiling assemblies shall be protected in accordance with Section 4305(b). 5. Duct penetrations through protective elements of fire-rated coridor walls. Such dampers shall be combination fire/smoke dampers conforming to UBC Standards Nos. 43-7 and 43-12 with a minimum leakage classification of III. 6. Ducts that are not a part of the smoke-control system, penetrating atrium walls or ceilings as defined in Section 1716(c). (1991 Uniform Building Code, Section 4306(j).)

Detectors shall also be installed in the supply duct, downstream of the filters. Activation of any detector shall cause the air-moving equipment to automatically shut down.
