General safety rules for any cutting or welding shall be in accordance with Article 49 of the UFC. This includes but is no limited to:
Separation of cutting/welding operations from combustibles. When welding or cutting is performed above or withing 10 feet of combustible construction or material or near a place where workers or other persons are likely to pass, noncombustible shields shall be used to protect such materials or persons. Fire extinguisher shall be kept at locations where welding or cutting is performed. During and after welding and cutting operations, a fire watch shall be present. The fire watch shall be maintained at least one hour after completion of cutting operations to detect any smoldering fires. Upon detection, the fire department shall be immediately contacted.

When the system serves more than one occupancy, automatic shutoff shall be provided. (1991 Uniform Mechanical Code, Section 1009.a.)

Codes Administration- Smoke detectors required by Subsection (a) shall be installed in the main return-air duct ahead of any outside-air inlet or they may be installed in each room or space served by the return-air duct. Detectors shall also be installed in the supply duct, downstream of the filters. Activation of any detector shall cause the air-moving equipment to automatically shut down. (1991 Uniform Mechanical Code, Section 1009.b.)

Codes Administration- When a cooling coil or cooling unit is located in an attic or furred space where damage may result from condensate overflow, an additional water tight pan of corrosion resistant metal shall be installed beneath the cooling coil or unit to catch the overflow condensate due to clogged primary condensate drain, or one pan with a standing overflow and separate secondary drain may be provided with a drain pipe, minimum 3/4 nominal pipe size, discharging at a point which can be readily observed. This requirement is in addition to the requirements for condensate waste piping set forth in section 510 of this code. (UMC Section 1205)
