The duct/chimney shall be firmly anchored to or otherwise supported by the building or structure. All joints shall be liquid tight or of such design that liquid will drain to the interior of the duct/chimney.

The duct/chimney must terminate a minimum of 3' above the roof structure.

The drawing submitted shows that an inline exhaust fan will be installed in the exhaust duct. This fan is sized to remove 400 cfm of air from this room. Clarify how 400 cfm will be supplied to this room.

The 1991 Uniform Mechanical Code, Section 914(b), requires that the thimble, shown on the submitted drawings, extend a minimum of 9" above and 9" below the roof structure. A clearance of 6" shall be maintained on all side of the duct as it pernetrates the roof structure.

According to the drawing submitted, the proposed duct/chimney will be of a double wall factory built type construction. Provide the manufacturer's specification on the duct/chimney to be used.

Per the 1991 Uniform Mechanical Code, Section 1002, venting systems and exhaust ducts shall not extend into or through ducts or plenums. It is our understanding that this building is using the above ceiling space as a return air plenum. The duct/chimney above the ceiling must be enclosed in a sleve of 24 guage metal with no seems and sealed at the top and bottom.
