Codes Administration - In a discussion I had earlier with Glen Jones, the possiblity of providing the entire building with sprinkler protection was mentioned. If the entire building is sprinkled, then the corridors would not be required to be rated if smoke detectors are installed per their listings within the corridors per the 1991 UBC Section 3305.g Exception 5. If the sprinkler system is not going to be installed, than the stairways would be required to be in an enclosure as they are connected to rated corridors.
